The photos above are of the actual pen we are offering for sale here
Dating from the late 1940s, this is a Mabie Todd Blackbird 5242 Self-Filler in light and dark blue pearl marble with chrome trim. The pen measures 12.2cms capped
This is fitted with a 14k gold broad MT&Co Blackbird nib with good ink flow and some flex
This appears to be unused and is in excellent overall condition. The imprints on the section, cap top and barrel are all very crisp
The pen still has its original paper band on the cap giving its price and nib grade and comes with its "Blackbird Self-Filling Fount Pen" card box and filling instructions as shown in the photos
This fills from an ink bottle using the lever on the side of the barrel and does not take cartridges. We have serviced the pen which includes fitting a new ink sac
Fountain pens from the 1920s to 1960s typically have a slightly heavier ink flow than most modern pens, and a supply of decent quality writing paper and blotting paper is recommended
Condition A2/1b - (Ref 12905)

We have fully serviced this pen which includes disassembling the pen and ultrasonically cleaning all the parts. We then reassemble the pen and fit the correct size of new ink sac, check the ink flow and the smoothness of the nib. We also check and adjust the tightness and positioning of the clip.
This pen comes with our normal 12 month warranty. We keep a detailed record of each customer's purchases so if you need to call us, we will have all the information here to answer any query
