The photos above are of the actual pen we are offering for sale here
This is an English 51 Classic in light burgundy with steel cap from the mid 1950s
This is showing no signs of having been used - the barrel has the remains of the original factory chalk marks. The barrel also has a very crisp 'Parker Made in England' imprint. The cap retains its original frosting along with the normal superficial storage marks
This is fitted with a 14k gold oblique nib (cut from top right to bottom left) with a writing width varying from 0.4mm to 0.7mm so is probably what Parker would have classified as a medium oblique. A standard fine is around 0.4mm and a medium
The purpose of an oblique nib is to give variation in line width unlike standard (non stub) fine, medium or broad nibs which produce the same line width (monoline) regardless of which direction the nib is travelling. With this type of oblique nib, the line is thinnest travelling diagonally across the page from bottom left to top right, and thickest running diagonally down the page from top left to bottom right
The dating of this pen to the mid 1950s is based on the cap having the later short clip along with the earlier cage clutch and the barrel imprint
This is an aerometric Parker 51. The pen fills from an ink bottle and does not take cartridges
